The University of North Carolina at Charlotte created a botanical garden when the university was opened with the purpose of being an interactive classroom setting for their new students. It has since sprouted into not only one of the main attractions at UNCC, but it has also become one of the top tourist destinations in Charlotte. The people who manage the botanical gardens put a lot of care into both the plants they care for and the outreach to their community both in and out of the university.
The botanical garden has many different ways it reaches out to students and residents alike. For example, the gardens serve as a classroom setting for students in the biology department, while also doing community events such as horticulture classes, field trips, plant sales, and ceremonies can be held at the gardens. They also provide many volunteering opportunities and rely on it to help keep their garden running smoothly and looking as beautiful as it is.

The botanical gardens have significant community appeal to the people of Charlotte and beyond, and continue to find ways to keep those in the community involved. They use events to reach out to people of all ages and appeal to anyone regardless of how much they may know about nature or what it is they do.
