Easy Herbs

One of the easiest ways to get fresh produce for your kitchen or even just for decoration is growing herbs for personal use. In fact, many of these herbs are perfect for people who generally have a hard time keeping houseplants alive. Herbs like rosemary, thyme, sage, parsley, chives, and even mint are just a few of the low maintenance plants that look great and can liven up your room or your meal.

These herbs can be indoor or outdoor plants but growing them outdoor will need more careful consideration of soil types and seasonal planting. Many of the herbs listed above are great plants for late spring (if you live in a warmer climate like eastern North Carolina). A few of them, like chives and thyme should be planted a few weeks before the last frost of spring, while a few of the others can be planted later in the spring. Harvesting is also particular to the plant but generally speaking it’s ok to clip good portions of the plant without harming its future growth.

As we get into the winter months, it’s a perfect time to start planning and getting materials for a spring planting of several herbs to help spice up multiple areas of your life!
