Good Afternoon Everyone!
The ECU Orchard team has been working hard this past week on our future plans. We are working hard within our team and our community to create the best plan possible. This orchard, if fully developed and nurtured in the best possible way, can create positive impacts not only now but years down the road. Our main goal is to help the community of Greenville become more ecocentric.
Ecocentrism is a nature-centered, as opposed to human-centered, system of values.
We hope to help people see how their actions affect the world around them and how their individual decisions can help to change the world around them for the better. Our idea and implementation of this orchard will impact people of every step and walk of life. Students from elementary school to high school levels will be able to visit and walk through the orchard as a place of fun, relaxation, and learning. We plan to create a curriculum for elementary, middle, and high school students. Each of these curriculum will be planned around standards and hands-on learning experiences. For our college aged students we will have places to relax and study while being close to nature along with exhibits that are simply fun to be a part of and to watch others interact with. For parents, we have areas that children can safely play and explore nature. For our older community members, we will have areas to watch and interact with nature along with paths and easily accessible rest stops.
By impacting community members of every walk of life, we hope to impact and cause a chain reaction of environmental awareness. The benefits of an orchard are limitless, the environment will be helped, food will be created, people will be impacted, and so many other positive effects will be created.
