Hello everyone! We here at the Edible Landscape Initiative have been working hard over the last few weeks trying to make this project a reality. As we continue to work on this project, we feel like its a good time to look back on the journey we have taken to make it to this point. It has been a long, winding road to get to where we are today. It is amazing to see this group was able to make a class project come this far over the last year.
As some of you may know already, this project has its beginnings in Honors 2000 as groups were assigned a "wicked problem" in the world to try and find a solution to it. For the original members of the group, it started with trying to find a solution to climate change. Through research, it was discovered that awareness and education were important tools for motivating people to make better decisions and live more sustainable lives. After more research and deliberation, the idea of an orchard was born. As time passed and plans were made, more members were added to the fold in Honors 3000, and each came with new thoughts and ideas that helped push this even further ahead. We were able to create social media outlets, this website, and connections throughout the area that we believe will be beneficial to advancing this project into the next big stage. And here we are now, working through it all in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and advancing into Honors 4500.
Looking back on everything, we have indeed made many different turns on this road. With everything going on in the world, we have had to make some changes to our original plans. The group has done a great job adjusting and we are still doing everything possible to make this happen. The journey has been a good one so far, and our group can still accomplish something great. We would not be where we are today without the journey we took to get here and the support we have received from our university and community.
