Hello everyone! For those of you reading who have never heard of our student group, we are currently five students committed to bringing nature back onto the ECU campus and surrounding Greenville. We began our journey on August 24, 2019, simply students trying to solve climate change in our way. Like many of you reading, we believed that there was nothing that we could do to impact this seemingly overpowering issue.
We quickly found that the idea that no one could impact climate change was the very idea that was stopping any progress in solving climate change.
The idea of planting trees had been tossed around by our group member Jonathan, but it seemed like too simple of an idea. This was again where our thinking was wrong. Solving climate change doesn’t need to be complex and only solvable by those in power. It can be as simple as every person making changes, taking charge, and believing that they hold the power.
It was these ideals that led us on the path we are currently on and founded our initiative to make a change among those within our University and Greenville community. With that being said, let's meet the team that is striving to make these important changes.
Our team has spent the past year researching and planning the best way to introduce nature back into the everyday lives of the people around us. We came to the conclusion that people would be more likely to be in nature if they could benefit from it. Leading us to want to plant fruit trees. They don’t require constant care and maintenance but provide a fun activity and environment for individuals to be in. We are working to plant our fruit trees at Stratford Arms this year but can do so only with the help of students and faculty from campus as we kick-off our fundraising campaign.
